Still can't get over Veronica's stance on her sacrifice with Tris. "It's not sacrifice unless someone dies." Tells me exactly what you need to know about the writing of this series
Why is it even YA when the majority of YA seems to be written by and for 4th graders?
When I was an early teenager in middle school, this was top notch storytelling.
the fact that when you started to say the actual plot of the book i thought it was a joke...
Because its a piece of shit movie for 12 year olds, thats why.
This video gives me NakeyJakey vibes. Subscribed
A relative wanted to see this movie... So we all did. However, as i am a sci fi buff- and I mean going all the way back to the 1950s pulp novels- I recognized instantly what this was: A human "Ant Farm" with a population inside it being experimented on. How else could they STILL be receiving brand new items while BEING INSIDE A SEALED OFF STRUCTURE with "No connections to the outside", as well as talk of an enemy nobody has ever seen, or knows the location of. Not to mention the STUPID IDEA of killing off the farmers who grew their food. But what really ticked me off was that THIS was organized along the lines of High School Cliques.. And I graduated from and stopped caring about " BEING COOL IN HIGH SCHOOL" over 40 years ago. I am currently in the process of writing out a story in which an elderly mechanic discovers a sealed off city like the one in this movie- I'm changing names in my version- and although they have advanced computer expertise, the inhabitants of the city are unable to understand how a mp4 player works or how the hero's wind-sailing land yacht works.
The 1st book was ok but 2nd and 3rd were such crap......the movie only slightly better
Heard of it before but never had interest... but man. What a crappy idea of "factions"... selfless, peaceful, honest, intelligent and brave???? Just random traits toss in any way into a piece of paper. People went on cinemas to see these lazy written factions?? If it was the super overused 4 elements of nature it would have been less bad, or the also overused zodiac signs... but selfless, peaceful, honest, intelligent and brave?? SO random and boring.
I think a case can be made that Divergent boiled the YA dystopia genre down to its barest of bones and simplest of concepts. In doing so, it killed the genre outright.
The fact that this movie is a topic in my english textbook is just so weird to me...why not commit to the hunger games and have the full deal?
Because it was a soulless Hunger Games clone that didn't want to bring any new ideas than being HG clone
The whole "I don't fit in with you narrow plebs" is an annoying trope. At least J. K. Rowling kept Harry a Gryfindor
I think the reason I loved the books when I read them was because I saw the classification of individuals within society as an allegory for mental health and many other kinds of division with society. I have autism, and the fact that people who don't conform to restrictive social norms were seen as dangerous really got to me. Seeing that the first book was written in 3 weeks means that I'm probably adding that level of thought to it when the writer didn't, but I enjoyed the books.
I can tell you were inspired by NakeyJakey:)
When you try to copy a book/movie series that was already copying other stuff (like Battle Royale), you are bound to vanish fro memories quick
Please do maze runner
someone once pointed out that Divergent is just an uninteresting Hunger Games with Hogwarts houses
whoa i just realized the plot of others living outside the walls is the plot of attack on titan but this is much shittier lmao
is it just me or does allegiant remind you of the holocaust? i think its just me but if you think about it; gassing people, taking kids from their home, testing on people that are different from them. sounds suspicious
I've never been so angry at not being American and thus not being able to buy sponsorship wine
I'll never understand why they put so many things in the movies that literally just did not happen in the books...
Simple, the series is lame.
I really liked the first book and struggled to get through the second and I was so pissed at how they butchered the first book in the first movie that I never made it any further...
THEY CANT SHIP TO MY STATE FUUUUUCK
The plot is like the hardest thing to follow in divergent
Why did you remind us?
Veronica Roth is either a robot of an alien
They should have made the ending something like “well city x did poorly, let’s restart with city y and make an adjustment” that way we would have a satisfying ending. It’s disappointing and shows nothing our characters did matters but it’s satisfying because there are no more loose ends. It’s one of those things were you live the movie and even though the ending is sad or unsatisfying (like Infinity War or even arguably Endgame) it is still a good ending. Make it a tragic ending that way you don’t have to worry about squeezing another movie in there but if this movie does well you can.
I have to read this book for school and I just want to say this where people can hear me: The relationship between Four and Tris is unhealthy, a big part of it being the power dynamic and the fact that Four is an 18 y/o kissing a minor and stuff.
I remember I read like 4 chapters of divergent and I was like “okay that’s enough”
The "repetitive speech" got me 😂😂😂😂
OMG am I the only one who actually loved the book series!? Even more than the hunger games. I feel so attacked when Dylan keeps on roasting the series😂 TBH I loved the first two books but last one felt a little underwhelming cause the outsiders watching them felt a bit too much info in such a small time
Yea I read the book series up until Allegiant, back in middle school. Couldn't tell you a thing about what happened but I remember the ending of the 3rd book vividly. Hated it. I was so annoyed I threw the whole series away lol. 😂
When I read the book series, I said that every character with a name dies, and I was so right it made me laugh so hard.
I DEMAND FOR THE FINAL FILM
i’m never going to get over the age gap between four and tris
this series literally makes NO SENSE
I had shit taste 5 years ago and I thought the books were really good. I was upset about the movies but looking back the books weren’t good anyway, so expecting the movies to be good was just kinda dumb
i just want to point out that the semrums do not really work on tris, when u read the books u get to know that tris can caind of controll the serums 7:30
Dylan's idea had me so hooked I'd read the shit out of that
Holy shit I’ve never really taken note about Divergent before but fuck me if the world building and background lore regarding Genetic Splicing isn’t some of the most lacklustre and amateur understanding of basic Genetic science I’ve ever seen. Holy shit I’m only a few minutes in but I’m already SOLD on this video. Consider me subscribed.
The author even looks like Kirsten Stewart ripoff.
*sees title* Because it sucks *scrolls past*
It started when SOME brilliant scientist oh god
This book could be written by those "RPG makers" you simply choose names and some aspects of the lore, and the software just crumble them all in a standard narrative like those you see in a bunch of games these days. Honestly, if books, and movies, were dependent on quality, half of the authors and directors would not make anything anymore. That applies to music, to software, to politics. And young people seem fond of those things all over the globe. While old people use this to put marketable incapable people in proeminence because they then will depend on their money and power to keep that position, as they cant compete by themselves with their ability. That is why musicians of today cant sing or play instruments, actors cant act, writers cant write, and movies are mostly the same just changing shapes and names. I guess it is "the future" we built last 20 years.
What is with YA novels and every group of people having a nickname that's proceeded by the word "the" like they're a bad guy from Destiny or something
If you're able to switch factions doesn't that make you divergent?
Not related, but the best YA book I read was a romance and each chapter was a different perspective. The main protagonist, the main love interest, and I think the guy who liked the main protagonist. It’ll never got a movie, but I’m glad about it.
Is this nakeyjakey?
We had a unit in fifth grade where we read and watched the divergent series. We also learned what faction we were in. We did a similar thing for hunger games in sixth grade.
12 year old me thought I was so quirky because I got Divergent on that test, it's only now that I realise that's just called being fucking normal
Read the title. Click the video to watch. Instantly forgot why I clicked and had to reread the title. Ohh, well this is the perfect time to write a comment.
Divergent had the dumbest category system. Literally impossible for people not to be more than one of those things.
Another thing that bothered me, and maybe this was already addressed in the book but it's been a while, was that the mind control serum was only supposed to have an effect on dauntless right? And that's why it didn't work on divergents. But what about other types of people who didn't get dauntless or divergent in the test but chose dauntless anyway? Why wouldn't they be immune? And if it DOES work on them qnd only doesn't work on divergents, why not just brainwash the sefless faction into handing over control without murder?? ???? ?
To be honest, I didn't even know they released a second and third movie! That's shocking to me right now. xD (Note that I'm from Germany, maybe they didn't market the sequels that much here?)
In 2021 I am watching it still few times a month 😀 so that mean we didnt forget about Divergent series 😀
Nakey Jakey formula?
I loved these movies and yet i 100% agree with all of this 😂 i can see the flaws in the movie while also still able to enjoy it. Mostly cause i love cinematography
The only thing I remember from that movie is them jumping off a roof and an underground water thing that someone was pushed into
I don't think my girlfriend and I will forget about the existence of Divergent. We like watching shitty movies like this or 50 Shades to make fun of them. There's a line in the third movie that we quote all the time. We watched the Spanish dub, so this is probably different in the original voices, but after they escape the city, Four says "Come on, it's this way". How do you know the way? It makes no sense and we found it very funny.
Everything I've read and watched in the divergent series is almost the hunger games to the t. Cuz like its a teen girl who saves a dystopia world. While they have factions everything is just hunger games. I'm not saying these books copied buuuuut
Did people not want to see Tris die? Tbh I didn’t, but I still would have seen the last movie if they’d finished the series.
I read the series... uh... some decent interesting ideas... not that many felt fleshed out in an interesting way... I couldnt imagine watching a movie on the book, because I assumed it would just be, an even shittier version of the book. oh yeah, ill watch the vid now edit: WAIT, you have a mil subs and ive never heard of you? wtf youtube algorithm god? I thought I could trust you
Me in 2021 just getting finishing the movies for the first time: uhhhh
So you're telling me that divergent is just bad mix of hunger games and maze runner?
Another reason why it failed is that the market was flooded suddenly with movies that based off of a book series...3 large movies...The Hunger Games, Divergent, and the Maze Runner. By the time Divergent should have been filming the 4th movie, the general public was moving on to new movies. And the Maze runner had to stall production of it's last movie since the lead actor broke a bone. People were simply ready to move on....
All I remember is the death of the blonde woman and I have seen all these movies. Even then I only remember her death because I shouted "Ding dong the wicked bitch is dead"
i only remember two things about the books: in the first book, there are three separate times where she's going to shoot someone, changes her mind and shoots them in the foot (to not kill them i guess) and twice were with the same person. in the third book there was a thing dripping water onto a big stone slab as a metaphor for uhhh something. it was cool imagery but since i dont know what it represented it kinda fell flat
Without ever reading the books I was able to guess the huge parts of the second and third
What I thought was interesting was 1) each faction is the extreme of each. They actually have drugs that force people to do the extremes, for example for the truth one you cant even tell white lies, you have to be brutally honest and are basically subjects to truth serum. Same with the others. 2) THEY KILL THE MAIN CHARACTER. But this is only from the books. Never seen the movies. Most of the time, movies adaptations of books aren't as good as the books in my opinion.
Dylan playing The Last of Us when
Honestly. The first two books were solid. What the heck happened with the last one.
The 1st movie is basically anti-intellectual propaganda: -The science nerds students are all evils and have no other purpose than using their science to manipulate the population -Don't less your child follow the path of science this will even turn a selfless always willing to help people kind boy (Caleb) into an inhuman creature the 2 and 3 are a bit better
It's just so hard to like Tris. I cannot empathize, she just seems so annoying.
this like nakeyjakay but for films and classier
all this did for me was make me appreciate the hunger games. an absolutely incredible series.
You would not getting pay by NordVPN, Campfire, Skill Share, or Manscape. Good job, good job.
all things that are good, come from Wisconsin, except the colleges, avoid them. 🤣
“And she dies...PSYCH. She’s the protagonist she can’t die...yet 😏” 🤣🤣🤣 this sent me hahahahaha
Ok but I legit read this entire series in less than a week and I still love the books 🤣🙈 and I love the first movie too, but the sequels were TERRIBLE
4 = tehnoblade he is the second he is the second worst thing thet hapend to orfins
I wrote the following like 5yrs ago but it seems appropriate still: "I know this is old but damn it I have to vent too. I felt like the first two books told a story that was in progress already when the book begins. The story was then ended in an ambiguous way with the overall story continuing without us watching. In short, we got a glimpse of life here and that was it. Is it satisfying? Not really. But I would've rather had an ambiguous ending than the garbage that was the third book. I honestly believe that the author wrote a long story that was split into two books and someone somewhere said "We're gonna need a third book. The trilogy is where the money is." So she pumped out a FUCK YOU final book that she didn't want to write in the first place. Otherwise how does she just disregard every characterization that she stuck with so well the entire first 2/3? UGH. Fuck Allegiant."
God, Allegiant is the worst movie I ever saw in a theater. I didn't want to see it, but our high school class was forced to. I didn't pay a cent to see it, yet I still wanted a refund.
Say what you will about these awful films...but Theo James is sexy
I love the books so much more!!!
The book structure doesn't remind of Maze Runner?? First they are traped in somewhere bad, then theres a dessert and a society after that and its the point of the story
I honestly liked the books but the movies were pretty bad...
It’s sad because it’s such an interesting premise and could be legendary if executed properly
Hunger Games was already a washed-out rip-off, so this is like the fanfiction of a rip-off, written by an angsty not-quite-teen-anymore...?
Honestly the books are a little better
Because the characters suck. And the plot is a bad port of Hunger Games. There you go, that's why.
Ok the books were kinda shit but at least better then the dumpster fire movie.
Apparently I didn’t finish the books... I did love them tho, but I also was like 13 and probably depressed but didn’t know that
i’ve read the books and watched the films múltiple times and i literally forgot about the whole DNA modification thing... that’s how genuinely vague it is
This explains why I couldn’t follow the plot or find the point of this film even tho it appeared like serious things were happening.
because it made no sense.
The authors a female. What you'd expect.
